Paul Watkins was an adventure-seeking ‘flower child’ who so happened upon the Charles Manson ‘Family’ in Topanga Canyon in the late 1960s – ultimately joining the ranks soon after. Not involved in the gruesome events that sent the 60s crashing down that infamous night at Cielo Drive, Paul Watkins would ultimately testify against Manson.  This isn’t a rehashing of Manson-centred content or a biography of Little Paul—that can best be digested in Paul’s own 1978 book, ‘My Life with Charles Manson’.

Here, instead, is a lovingly curated scrapbook of a young man in Tecopa reimagining himself and embracing music with his friends as part of the unique and long-lost ‘Desert Sun’.  The Last Desert Sun is presented here as a large A4 Zine, scrapbooking and capturing the elusive life of Little Paul Watkins, providing rare and unseen photographs of Paul and the band, insights from friends who knew Watkins, and newly imagined poetry dedicated to Paul.
