One of the events I’m fortunate to support is Tees Zine Fest, started by Miki Rogers and made up of a group of us bringing individual skills to the event. I visited as a creator last year, and since have been advising on zine culture, and supporting the event on the day.
The fest allows self published creatives to come together and showcase their work. Last year the event was attended by 500 customers, and this year was another resounding success.
Miki had asked me if I’d make one of my ‘vintage-esque’ 8 tape videos for the event this time around, so I did!
It’s a throwback style short allowing the artists to speak, and commemorate the event which will run yearly on Teesside.
Well done to all involved, and though we are all absolutely exhausted, we prepare now for next weeks newly introduced makers market. Check out the vid above.
As part of Tees Zine’s, Miki and I are currently also working in collaboration with a local museum, guiding young people on Zine culture for them to be able to curate their own exhibition for pride month. Tees Zine CIC is evolving into something that benefits the local community, and allows marginalised voices TO BE HEARD!
That can only be celebrated …
